Opening Session: Hibakusha's Message to the World
In December 2024, Nihon Hidankyo was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of the efforts of Hibakusha "to achieve a world free of nuclear weapons and for demonstrating through witness testimony that nuclear weapons must never be used again." As the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombings approaches, the opening session will learn from their calls for the abolition of nuclear weapons and state compensation for the A-bomb damage, and consider how we should carry on their work.
