Ito is a lawyer and has been involved in domestic and international human rights cases, including women's and children's rights, adult crimes, and environmental lawsuits since her admission to the bar in 1994. After returning to Japan in 2006, she was involved in the establishment of Human Rights Now, a Japan-based international human rights NGO that addresses global human rights issues that transcend national borders, and since then, as Executive Director, she has worked daily to seek solutions to serious human rights issues in Japan and abroad.
