Professor, Department of International Studies, Faculty of International Studies, J. F. Oberlin University. Nakamura is the director of the Research Institute of Democracy and Education. Her research focuses on education that guarantees the right to learn, encourages human development, and opens the way to independence and social participation. Nakamura has served as a member of the editorial board of the Bulletin of the Japan Society for Educational Research and as a councilor of the American Studies Association. Her works include “Education in the World,” “Dictionary of Contemporary America,” “Studies in American History,” “Americanism and ‘Race,’” “The World of American Social History,” and “Historical Studies on National Integration and Education in American Multicultural America.
