WATANABE Kuniko

Board Member, ANT-Hiroshima

Born in 1980 in Hiroshima. Board member of ANT-Hiroshima, a non-profit organization based in Hiroshima that aims to build international peace through various grassroots activities such as nuclear abolition, international cooperation, and peace education activities. Watanabe also provides guided tours of trees that survived the atomic bombing. Watanabe is the producer of the documentary Barefoot Gen: Hiroshima as Seen by Barefoot Gen (2011), about Keiji Nakazawa, the author of the manga Barefoot Gen. His grandparents were exposed to the atomic bomb in Hiroshima. She is currently training to become a family heir of her grandmother, Teruko Ueno, who was a 15-year-old student at the Hiroshima Red Cross Hospital's rescue nurse training department at the time of the bombing.
