Muhadi SUGIONO
Senior Lecturer at International Relations, Universitas Gadjah Mada
Muhadi Sugiono is a lecturer at the Department of International Relations, Universitas Gadjah Mada in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, and I am interested in security and peace studies, humanitarianism, and regional politics. Believing that the beauty of science lies in its ability to promote good causes for humanity, I combine my academic life with activism. I have actively been engaged with civil society organizations to promote peace, conflict resolution, human rights, and humanitarian diplomacy, especially in Southeast Asia. I began to engage with the global movement toward nuclear disarmament with the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), the Nobel Prize Winner 2017, more than a decade ago. Beginning with my participation in the first conference on the humanitarian consequences of nuclear weapons in oslo in 2013, I participated in most of the meetings, both in or outside the UN, led to and followed the adoption of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), as an ICAN campaigner to encourage states' representatives to voice their support for the TPNW.
The Instittute of Intrenational Studies (IIS) at the Department of International Relations, Universitas Gadjah Mada, joined the ICAN's International Steering Group in January 2025.
