The Remaining Issues - The Reason Why We Demand Compensation
Nihon Hidankyo received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2024. In his speech at the ceremony, Tanaka Terumi, Co-Chair of Nihon Hidankyo, emphasised that "no compensation was provided for the hundreds of thousands of deaths, and to this day the Japanese government has consistently refused to provide State compensation." Eighty years have passed since the end of the war, and State compensation that the Hibakusha and other war victims have been demanding has still not been provided. What is the reasoning for this? Why should we continue to demand State compensation? This session will consider unresolved issues in this 80th year since the end of the war from the perspective of relief for civilian victims of both atomic bombings and air raids.
