UNITAR Public Session – Recent UN Trends on Nuclear Disarmament Issues

Organizer: UNITAR

Since 2015, UNITAR has been conducting training in Hiroshima on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation for diplomats and others in Asia and the Pacific who will participate and practice in conferences such as the Nuclear Weapons Convention on the international stage, to develop the negotiation skills needed when implementing the Convention and preparing conference outcome documents.
In this session, four experts who have been active in international organizations, including Mr. Tariq Rauf (former Head of Verification and Security Policy, International Atomic Energy Agency), who is also a lecturer of the above training program, will be invited to provide an opportunity to think together with participants about challenges for nuclear disarmament. While touching on security and diplomatic issues facing the world, they will discuss trends in nuclear weapons control being undertaken by the United Nations and the prospects for the 2026 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference.
