ASANO Hideo
Secretariat staff, Japan Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons
Born in Ibaraki Prefecture in 1996, Asano is a staff member of the secretariat of the Japan Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons. After graduating from the Faculty of International Liberal Arts at Soka University and the Graduate School of International Cooperation Studies at Kobe University, Asano studied at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies in Monterey, USA, as a Fulbright Scholar. He studied nuclear policy in the U.S. and China as well as nuclear disarmament under the NPT and the Nuclear Weapons Convention, and received his Master of Arts (Nonproliferation and Terrorism Studies) in 2022. During his graduate studies, he served as a graduate research assistant at the James Martin Institute for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS) and as a global nuclear policy intern at the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI). Asano has represented Japanese civil society at the First and Second Meetings of States Parties on the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and the Tenth NPT Review Conference.
