Assistant Secretary General, Nihon Hidankyo

Born in Nagasaki City in 1943, Wada was one year and ten months old when she was exposed to the atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki by the U.S. military. Wada was at her home 2.9 kilometers from the hypocenter. Although she was not injured or burned, she was frail as a child. In 2015, she joined the Nihon Hidankyo leadership and continues to give testimonies in Japan and abroad based on her mother's experiences. In August 2022, she participated in the NPT (Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty) Review Conference in New York, speaking as an NGO member. She is the vice president of the Kanagawa Prefecture Association of Atomic Bomb Survivors and the president of the Yokohama City Association of Atomic Bomb Survivors. She also serves as a coordinator of the Japan NGO Network for Nuclear Weapons Abolition and Vice President of the Japan Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons.
